Sunday Starters 7th Annual Cemetery Ride 12/Moderate/28+
About this event
Welcome to the Sunday Starters Ride!
We ride in and around the city on Sunday mornings when the streets are fairly quiet. When possible, we stick to roads with dedicated bike lanes or ride on bike paths to avoid traffic signals and other disruptions to our flow. As are most PBC club events, this is a no-drop ride, so riders should expect to regroup at the tops of climbs or at turns so that we can ride together. As long as you are keeping to the average pace listed above, we will not drop you! It's an ideal ride for those new to club riding who want to stay close to the city, and for seasoned veterans to enjoy a cafe ride for recovery or socialization.
Rain generally cancels, but if the weather is merely iffy, bring a rain jacket just in case it showers mid-ride. As always, bring your helmet, puncture kit, water bottles, and a snack; lights strongly encouraged as we pass in and out of forested areas, even on bright days.
About This Week's Route
It's the end of October, so that means it's time for our annual near-Halloween tour of a few of the more scenic and/or historic cemeteries in and around the city. Typically the weather is cool, the leaves are colorful, and the morning light is just right. This is not a fast ride! The plan is to spend a little time exploring each stop, which means your mileage will vary (hence the + in the ride distance above). Find a buddy to explore with and regroup at the cemetery exit by the announced time. Coffee stop at KLVN Coffee Lab.
Directions to the 3RH Trail parking lot at Southside Riverfront Park: from Carson Street, take 18th Street towards the river and cross the railroad tracks. Follow the road to the parking area underneath/near the Birmingham Bridge. Portable toilets may be available in the lot.
MEMBERS must register to attend this and all club rides. Click on "Member Login" in the right upper corner of your browser page to login. If this ride needs to be canceled, then those who registered will receive an email automatically, notifying them. Please click the "Register Now" button to the right. If you need to cancel your registration, use the cancel registration button or click here for instructions about how to do that so the ride leader knows to not expect you.
NON-MEMBER GUESTS must be referred to our Guest Concierge by using the link at the top of this page. Guests are welcome to attend one of our regular weekly rides but additional rides and event rides require membership. If a member wants to include a specific guest (i.e. family member or close friend) at one of our weekly local rides, the member is responsible for contacting the Ride Leader to discuss this ahead of time and the member is responsible for riding with their guest as part of the group. Other than a close friend or family member of a current member, guests must be referred to our Guest Concierge.
